Coming off the back of several meetings and a white paper submitted by BIOCROPS Nigeria, the MD NIRSAL invited stakeholders of the sugar industry to a round table discussion on the current state of the industry.
The meeting was attended by:
Executive Directors and sector management staff of NIRSAL,
Reperesentatives of the Nigeria Sugar Council,
The National Chairman of the Nigeria Sugarcane growers Association - His Royal Highness, The Etsu Tsaragi,
Representative from Flour Mills Nigeria and BUA group.
BIOCROPS Nigeria was represented by Jonathan Robson.
The key takeaways of the meeting were:
NIRSAL will include sugar amongst its focus crops crops.
NIRSAL would work closely with the Nigeria Sugar Development Council to facilitate the smooth and swift implementation of the Sugar Master Plan.
NIRSAL will work closely with all stakeholders to "fix" the sugar value chain.
The Department of Sience and Technology Abuja (FAST) ably led by the Director Mrs Rosemary Umana, Dangote Technical group on Sugar Plantation and the conveners - BIOCROPS Nigeria were warmly received by the management of Flour Mills Nigeria - Sunti.
It was a thoroughly educative time for both guests and visitors.

The tour of the Biocrops facility in Abuja by the Dangote Group Technical team on Sugar was a huge success.
The following day, the Management Team of the FCT Science and Technology lead by the Director Mrs Rosemary Umana, the management team of Biocropns as well as the Technical team from Dangote visited the Flour Mills Nigeria Sugar Plantation in Sunti.

Farmers in sub-Saharan Africa are encouraged to grow legumes due to their ability to fix nitrogen from the air and improve soil fertility, and also for their nutritive and commercial values.
The NoduMax legume inoculant is a product that contains nitrogen-fixing rhizobia able to colonize the roots of legumes.
The rhizobia literally transform legumes into “biological factories” helping them draw nitrogen from the atmosphere, improving both the crop and soil.
Nodumax is the first and only inoculant available in West Africa.
